Westwood Lutheran Church has been asking internal questions about the role and purpose of the church. But what do those who are not part of this faith community or have possibly never been exposed to church, think about the question... “What would a faith community look like that matters both for you and your community?”Please share

Greetings from New Orleans! This is Pastor Tania writing on behalf of Babette Chatman's and my family group (Alison, Heather, Danny, Hannah, Spencer, Quinn and Lauren - a fabulous family, I must say!). Today (Wednesday) we had much of the day before the Gathering started to explore this part of the city...on foot. When I asked the...
Today the A.C. broke on one of the buses while we where in Mississippi (not the best of states to be without it). After being out for about two hours or so, we stopped at a truck stop/ convenient store to try and fix it. We were stopped for about an hour and had a lot of fun buying snacks and water and cooling off from the hot bus. Our amazing bus ...
On Saturday morning we left church for 10 hour bus ride. We stopped for lunch and had a picnic at a truck stop in Iowa. We had to take cover from the rain while eating our sandwiches. On the bus we had lots of “fun” playing Dannica’s bus games. We arrived at the church in St. Louis at 11 that night. We got together with our small ...

Not sure where to begin about today! Early is best! Worship starts at 7 am and usually lasts for 2 hours, today, 2.75! We sang at both services and Jason preached at both services. There is an overwhelming sense of Gods goodness in this place! It was quite a morning!
After the services we met with the church elders and shared a meal together. ...

Today was an exciting day for us! We had the chance to witness the distribution of the Kids Against Hunger packets that our sister parish hands out to families fostering orphans whose parent or parents have died of AIDS. It was such a good feeling to know that something we put our hands to at Westwood is actually received by...
Today was truly an experience that will not easily be forgotten by any member of this group. Karl and I (Sonja) attended the morning prayer service at Arusha Road Church. Us, along with about fifteen Tanzanians (one of which, Alfonz, was sitting between us translating) enjoyed an hour of singing, prayer, lessons, and personal reflection. It was ...
Another full day with our friends in Tanzania! This morning we went to the ELCT Diocese office and received a warm welcome from all there. They reported about the condition of the ELCT, the bishop, and the churches and schools within the Dodoma region. It was interesting to hear about the major growth of the Tanzanian Lutheran church and the need ...
Today we have had a variety of experiences and are overwhelmed by the grace and joy of this wonderful place! We began the morning by visiting the Kendege school and Mlimwa B (the schools that Westwood has supported). At each school we received an update on how the children are doing, and warm thank you’s for the things that your money has ...
Our first day full day in Tanzania has been great fun! We woke up this morning and enjoyed a delicious breakfast, packed our things and headed out! Not before Karl, Dannica, Sonja and Alison took a stroll through the local market. Fresh vegetables and fruit, rice, beans and grain, live chickens, eggs, and a host of smells to accompany all that was ...
