SOS: Sonja Muus
Stories of Service: Sonja MuusMy name is Sonja Muus and I am a senior at Hopkins High School. Every Wednesday afternoon of this school year I have been serving at Redeemer Lutheran Church during the Redeemer After School Program (RAP) tutoring kids in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. It has been an extremely rewarding experience. For instance, one girl I was working with didn’t know how to write her name, so I decided to teach her. We practiced each letter individually for weeks and finally she was able to put the letters together to spell her own name. I was so happy to see how proud she was of her achievement.
My faith has definitely been involved with my experience at RAP. I feel that God is calling me to work with children, so in helping these kids I feel as though I am living out my own faith. God is definitely among the children and leaders at RAP. This after-school program has the amazing ability of setting strong faith foundations in these young children by bringing people of many backgrounds together to learn about and serve Jesus in incredible ways.
