The Kindergarten Opportunities at Westwood

Parents have many choices today in the private and public education settings. Westwood Early Childhood Center offers consistent care and education for infants through six year olds.

Could your child benefit with:
  • A small class size developing listening skills?
  • Another year of development gaining self regulation skills?
  • Active learning supported with meaningful writing and drawing experiences?
  • Regularly exploring the outdoors to learn about the real world of nature?
  • Hands on math materials
Consider enrolling your five year old in Westwood Early Childhood Center's KINDERGARTEN:
  • Licensed by the State of Minnesota
  • Accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs
  • Certified by the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association (ELEA).
Early Childhood involves the whole family. WECC parents partner with teachers through individual and group written reports. Open House, Parent Conferences, Playground Work Day, WECC Board, Family Events, donations and tuition demonstrate parent commitment to the early years.

Will my child learn to write the alphabet and be ready to read?

Our teachers provide regular learning activities to support your child's interest in key experiences that indicate levels of progress. Daily/weekly anecdotes of individual children are entered into Child Record Observations (COR) software that becomes the basis for each child's developmental summary. Parent observations are also entered into this assessment tool that considers the whole child.

Will my child be ready for first grade?

Even five year olds benefit from play. Accessibility to print rich environment and manipulative materials support the unfolding of the five year olds' thinking and expression. Encounters with other children, caring teachers, interesting collections and materials prepare the five year old.

If you are interested in enrolling for full or half day, please call 952-545-5624 or email d.lees@westwoodlutheran.org.
