Ministering to the needs of children and families in Elementary school
Elementary ministry serves families by providing events and ongoing activities throughout the church year to help parents and children get connected with others and to provide opportunities for faith development, support, fellowship and education. We continue to invite parent involvement and input into the ways that this ministry can continue to provide experiences to help families and the Westwood community grow together in the Christian faith.
Sunday/Wednesday School is offered at 10:30am Sunday morning and 6:00pm Wednesday evening. We encourage your family to both worship and be a part of our education opportunities.
1st through 5th Graders are part of rotation Sunday School. Each week for 4 weeks, the children experience a Bible story in a different way, through storytelling, crafts, computer, games, movie or drama.
The 6th graders are part of our pre-confirmation curriculum. They work with the Re-Form curriculum - the focus is on asking tough questions and exploring the answers.
Our teachers’ love for children is definitely evident in the way they teach and care for each individual child. Many have years of experience in sharing God’s Word with children.
Family Worship Days
"Worship Days" are included in our curriculum. These Worship Days often take place on holidays and school breaks. Not only do they provide families an opportunity to worship together, but they are an essential part of faith development.
Why are we including Worship Days in our curriculum? Worship is the starting place of children's faith development. In worship our whole community gathers to:
- Praise God
- Hear God's Word
- Hear the charge to care for all people
- Confess our sins and receive forgiveness
- Receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion
- Pray for the church, the leaders, children and ourselves
- Be sent out to put our faith in action
