Scholarship Application - Foundation
Westwood Seminary Scholarship ProgramIn a cooperative effort between Westwood Lutheran Church and the Westwood Lutheran Memorial Foundation a limited number of seminary scholarships will be awarded annually. The overall objective of this scholarship program is to support Westwood members who are enrolled in an accredited Lutheran seminary and planning to enter church ministry. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree or certificate track program of the institution. The minimum scholarship award is $1,000. Interested applicants should complete and return the application form by following the directions on the form.
Scholarship Criteria
Application and award criteria adopted by Westwood with the intent of meeting the objectives of the scholarship program are listed below.
Application criteria
• Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited Lutheran seminary during the fall term for which the scholarship is awarded.
• Applicant must be in a degree or certificate track program of the institution.
Award criteria
• Preference is granted to applicants enrolled in Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) institutions.
• Preference is granted to current and active members of Westwood.
• Preference may be granted to pastoral candidates over Associate in Ministry candidates.
• Scholarships are merit-based with academic performance as evidenced by grades being an important criterion.
• Activities outside of the classroom, whether on-campus or off-campus (including employment), will be considered.
• While individuals may apply for and be awarded scholarships more than once, preference is granted to first-time applicants.
• The minimum award is $1,000.
• The maximum award depends upon the annual amount of money available for scholarships and the number of scholarships awarded in the given year.
Westwood Scholarship Application
Westwood Lutheran Church and the Westwood Lutheran Memorial Foundation (jointly, “Westwood”) award scholarships to support Westwood members who are attending seminary and planning to enter church ministry. To be considered for a Westwood scholarship you must be:
1. Enrolled in an accredited Lutheran seminary during the fall term for which the scholarship is awarded.
2. In a degree or certificate track program of the institution.
Scholarships are merit-based. Academic performance as evidenced by grades will be an important criterion. Activities outside of the classroom, whether on-campus or off-campus (including employment) will be considered.
While individuals may apply and be awarded scholarships more than once, preference is granted to first-time applicants. The minimum award is $1,000. The maximum award depends upon the annual amount available for scholarships and the number of scholarships awarded in the given year.
If the scholarship stipulates financial need as a criterion, Westwood will contact your institution’s office of student financial services to determine whether you meet the criterion. Your permission is requested at the end of this application form.
