Traditional Worship

Organ2b2.jpgWhen each day begins to feel like the day before, we invite you to join the hundreds of people who find sanctuary from the "everyday" by attending Westwood's traditional worship services held at 8:20 and 9:45 each Sunday morning.

At Westwood, traditional worship rises above the "everyday" influences so common in our homes and workplaces and is centered on the word of God and forgiveness. Worship services include the reading of Biblical texts of praise and consolation, preaching, congregational prayer, and the enthusiastic and vibrant singing of hymns. The newly rebuilt 50-rank Holtkamp/Dobson pipe organ, many times augmented by other instruments, leads the hymn-singing.

The inspired music sung and heard in Westwood's traditional worship spans the classical traditions of the Church to contemporary songs of faith from various world cultures. The 70-voice adult choir is Westwood's primary choral ensemble; in addition, four children's choirs, three handbell choirs, numerous vocal and instrumental soloists, and the Westwood Wind Ensemble regularly participate in the traditional worship services.

Holy Communion is offered on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.

Contemporary Worship

11:10 Contemporary WorshipGod's great gift, in a new wrapping! In September 1997, Westwood added the 11:10 Contemporary Worship service. This has proven to be a tremendously popular addition to Westwood's worship schedule. The style is casual and comfortable. The music is led by skilled music teams with keyboard, electric and acoustic guitar, and percussion. The service occasionally includes drama and children's messages.

The preaching is up close, from the heart, and directed toward growth in personal discipleship. The prayers are offered spontaneously from the gathered people of God.

Communion is shared on the first and third Sundays of every month.

Check out this refreshing alternative in Good Shepherd Hall Sundays at 11:10 am. Nursery care is available for very young children.
