Expectant Families Prayer Chain

If you or someone you know is expecting a child, whether by birth or adoption, the Expectant Families Prayer Chain upholds parents throughout that waiting time until your child is safely delivered into your arms. Some key features of the prayer chain are:
  • Connecting you with a prayer partner - who will pray for you throughout your waiting time and will contact the prayer coordinator in times of need as well as once the child will be delivered.
  • Delivering meals when your child(ren) arrives.
  • Delivering resource materials for the first year of life.
The prayer chain is seeking prayer partners and individuals to join the prayer chain call/e-mail list. The time committment is a simple phone call or prayer when needed.

Birth to Five Ministry

Ministering to the needs of children ages Birth-to-Five and their families

Birth to Five ministries serves families by providing events and ongoing activities throughout the church year to help parents and children get connected with others and to provide opportunities for support, fellowship and education. We continue to invite parent involvement and input into the ways that this ministry can continue to provide experiences to help families and the Westwood community grow together in the Christian faith.

Sunday School, Pathways Adventures, Pre-Confirmation

Curriculum

The 3 year olds through Kindergartners are using Augsburg Fortress' "Witness". It is Bible story based and like the rest of our curriculum covers the heart of the salvation story.

Our 1st through 5th Graders are part of our rotation Sunday School, "Pathway Adventures". Each week for 4 weeks, the children experience a Bible story in a different way, through story telling, crafts, computer, cooking, games, movie or drama.

The 6th graders are part of our pre-confirmation curriculum, "The Building Blocks of the Church".

Teachers

Our teachers’ love for children is definitely evident in the way they teach and care for each individual child. Many have years of experience in sharing God’s Word with children.

Parent Helps

During the year Westwood offers classes and events that help with parenting skills. Westwood wants to help you to help your children grow in their faith.

Worship Days

"Worship" days are included in our curriculum. These "Worship" days, which will take place every 4-5 weeks, are an important part of Sunday School, Pathway Adventures and our pre-confirmation curriculum. Not only do they provide families an opportunity to worship together, but they are an essential part of faith development. Milestone events will be celebrated on these days and different groups of Sunday School children will be singing.

Why are we including "Worship" days in our curriculum? Worship is the starting place of children's faith development. In worship our whole community gathers to:
  • Praise God
  • Hear God's Word.
  • Hear the charge to care for all people
  • Confess our sins and receive forgiveness
  • Receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion
  • Pray for the church, the leaders, children and ourselves.
  • Be sent out to put our faith in action.
Westwood celebrates the milestones in your child's faith journey, starting with the three year olds receiving a Bible storybook. The four year olds learn about worship, the kindergartners learn about serving, the 1st graders learn the Lord's Prayer and lead the congregation in the prayer during a worship service. The following years they receive Bibles, explore the meaning of The Lord's Supper, Baptism, The Ten Commandments, and the Apostles' Creed.

Mini Camps

School Year Mini Camps

Mini camps for 1st through 6th graders are being offered during the school year when public schools are closed. In order to prepare for each camp, registrations must be received 3 weeks prior to each camp. A minimum of 5 children is necessary to hold a camp. To register, contact Carol Pyeatt at 952-767-5572 or send e-mail.  Financial Assistance is available for all the Mini Camps

In 2008:

  • Feb 18, 9:00 to 4:00 Presidents’ Day
    Camp Around the World—Egypt
    Fee $13
The morning begins with a Bible story. Campers will learn more about Biblical and modern day Egypt through stories and crafts.
Remember to bring your lunch. Invite a friend to come with you.

Summer Mini Camps

Westwood Lutheran Church strives to put children first. In so doing we have planned an extensive summer program to interest as many children as possible by offering a variety of mini camps at church and a Bible camp experience at Wapogasset Bible Camp for the 2nd through 6th graders. You need not be a Westwood member to attend our camps.

Each camp consists of Bible stories, music, prayer and the emphasis for the day or week. Age appropriate crafts and activities are offered at each camp. When needed the children will be divided into different age levels. Children who attend a morning and afternoon camp will be supervised over the lunch hour. Campers need to bring their lunch.

For the schedule of Summer Mini Camps, Click Here.

For Registration forms to print out and submit, Click Here.

The deadline for registration is three weeks prior to each camp. Please register early as the camps do fill up quickly. Some camps have a limited enrollment.   Please note that the grade designation is for the grade COMPLETED during the 2007-2008 school year.

Summer Mini Camps are managed by the Director of Children’s Ministry, Carol Pyeatt  who may be contacted at 952-767-5572 or c.pyeatt@westwoodlutheran.org.
Please submit all registration forms and payments to Carol at the church.

Special Notes
Registrations for 2nd through 6th graders at Camp Wapogasset are separate from the mini camp registrations. To be considered registered for Camp Wapo all appropriate registration forms, health history forms, copies of health insurance cards and payments must be turned in by March 1 to Westwood Lutheran Church.

Financial assistance for all the camps is available for those who need it — just call Carol Pyeatt.
