Habitat for Humanity

Around the world, the poor cry. They cry for shelter, for food, and for justice. They cry for their basic needs to be met.

Habitat for Humanity has responded to housing needs for 25 years. Westwood has worked with Habitat building homes since 1991 in North Minneapolis, Phillips, Columbia Heights, St. Louis Park, Maple Grove and Minnetonka.

Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that works in partnership with people in need of decent shelter to build simple, decent houses. Habitat homeowners purchase their houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgages while contributing hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” labor working on their house and the houses of others. Their mortgage payments are placed in a revolving “Fund for Humanity” to finance the construction of future houses.

Westwood is looking for volunteers to help organize the next home we build. Let the church office know if you are interested.

Please keep Habitat in your heart and prayers.      “Compassion is carrying someone else’s pain in your heart.” - Anonymous

2008

Habitat for Humanity Workweek is June 2—6 at a Worksite in Plymouth.

We have received word that our Habitat For Humanity week for 2008 will be from June 2-6 at a site in Plymouth. Work is from 8:30 a.m. (sharp) to 4 p.m. each day. For more information or to sign up check in the SALT forms or in the Commons on May 11, May 18 and June 1. If you’re not interested in working for the day, you (or a group of you) could contribute by bringing a meal for the workers on one of the days. Our friends from the SPARK churches along with Redeemer in north Minneapolis will be invited to work with us. Come and lend a hand!

Thank you to all who have supported Habitat for Humanity. This was the twelfth house Westwood has built. What a great way to be involved in solving the housing shortage and help twelve wonderful families have a home.

Over the years, many have supported Habitat for Humanity with prayers, labor, food, mentoring the families on home ownership and financial gifts. Thank you for all the past and continuing support.
